Wisdom Teeth Removal
Wisdom teeth extraction is a surgical procedure to remove one or more “Wisdom Teeth,” otherwise known as the third molars.
Wisdom teeth extraction is a common dental procedure, performed for several reasons such as:
Not enough space: In many cases, there is not enough space in a persons jaw to support the eruption of wisdom teeth. This can lead to misalignment or crowding of the teeth nearby.
Wisdom teeth are impacted: When wisdom teeth are unable to fully emerge from the gums, they become trapped or impacted. This can cause pain and discomfort, as well as increase the risk for infection or cysts.
Risk of tooth decay: Due to their position in the back of the mouth, wisdom teeth can be challenging to clean properly. This makes them significantly more prone to tooth decay and cavities.
Most dentist recommend that wisdom teeth are removed in a persons early adult years (15-22 years old).
