Botox for TMD

The Temporomandibular Joint is located on the sides of the head, just in front of the ears. It is the joint that connects the mandible (jawbone) and the temporal bone (skull).  Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD) is a condition that affects the muscle, tissue, or bone in and around the area of the temporomandibular joint.

Some symptoms of TMD include:

- Complications with opening and closing your mouth

- Tenderness and/or pain in the area of ears, jaw joint, temple, or face

- Neck pain and headaches

- Clenching or grinding of the teeth

Botox treatment for TMD works by the dentist making Botox injections into the muscles of the jaw, temple, and other sites depending on your symptoms. Botox when injected in small doses blocks the nerve signals that cause muscle contractions, leading to muscle relaxation in jaw.
